Q: What do Naturists do on holiday?

A) Well, Naturists or Nudists as some refer to enjoy all the activities their vacation has to offer. 

It's important to remember the resorts rules so as not to offend the unexpected, also wearing clothes may be optional and sometimes required in the resorts restaurants and bars etc. It's always best to check to be on the safe side!

Naturists enjoy socialising, swimming, diving, sports such as volleyball, tennis, snooker, days out at the beach, days exploring (clothed), dedicated nudist boat trips to private secluded coves for that bit of vitamin D top up. Maybe taking a Yoga class, Tai Chi, pilates or simply watching your favourite live footy match on the big screen. 

Some resorts are geared up so that you can go shopping, pop into the post office or bank, eat in the cafes/restaurants/bars without clothing. These resorts are often gated areas where nudity is the norm and self-contained communities enjoy the freedom and security.

Follow the rules, be respectful and have fun.   

Europe has some outstanding sites that provide Naturists with a private and comfortable place enjoy their Nudist holidays. That said here's a few do's and do nots.

Firstly prioritise learning the rules and etiquette, proper clothing adjustments is also a good idea.

Get to know the differences between resorts abroad and those in the UK or where your located. 

Look out in the UK for: Club operated camping sites tend to be smaller and often community driven and maybe quieter.  The weather in the UK usually changes fast so it's a good idea to pack some warm layers, wet weather gear, hoodie and something to keep you warm on chilly nights after a day in the nude.

UK Naturist resorts will most likely require photo ID on arrival with some asking for British Naturism (BN) membership, especially for day visits or special events, however newbies are often welcome.

Let's take a look at do's and do nots. Always carry a large towel and lie or sit on your own towel in communal areas, chairs, sunbeds, benches and saunas for hygiene, keep safe.

Check the resort rules on photography, cameras, recording devices and phones are sometimes banned or restricted in public areas to protect privacy, would you like to be photographed without knowing?  Check the rules and be respectful.

Naturism is family friendly (unless otherwise stated) and therefore is strictly non-sexual and more focused on body acceptance. Any sexual behaviour is not acceptable as is unwanted staring, both are strictly prohibited.

Once again, check the clothing rules for the resort/site you are in. Nudity is mostly mandatory in swimming pools and sunbathing zones, weather permitting of course. For safety, practical items like sun hats, sunscreens, suitable foot wear are acceptable. During meal times some resorts require you to wear casual clothing in their restaurants and bars. 

So, where can you head off too? Continental Europe has plenty of hotspots to choose from. Take France which claims over 350+ naturist sites. Most major European nudist resorts have a mandatory code across the whole resort or clearly marked designated zones, some of which might be shops and walking paths, usually only at peak times though.

European sites can be massive, spanning hundreds of hectares with a vast array of diverse international guests. Be knowledgable about any boundaries, like beach zoning where clothed and non-clothed might meet, also note any family rules, local quiet hours.

Finally a few tips on packing. Exposed skin gets burnt must faster than you think and can ruin your holiday and be very uncomfortable. Choose a good quality sunscreen with a high SPF. Wear a wide brimmed sun hat, non-slip sandals, trainers for trail walking or stony/gravel paths around the campsite.
